Up, Up and Away!

Up, Up and Away!

Once again Citrus educator Christina Hackey and her students “blast off” their model rockets for the ‘Rocketman Competition‘ sponsored by The Christa McAuliffe Educational Outreach Program.  This event is a join effort through funding provided by the Citrus County Education Foundation and the Citrus Springs Elementary Parent Teacher Organization.

This is another of those great actives that I am honored to participate in, and again this year I had the chance to judge the final round of rocket launches.  Ms. Hackey does a super job providing this STEM opportunity for our students.  I am already looking forward to next year.

Chronicle: On concurrency, council stand with school board

On concurrency, council stand with school boardInverness City Council agrees with with School Board on concurrency. City councilman Cabot McBride said he could think of no sound reason why the county opted out of the agreement in the first place. City Administrator Frank DiGiovanni likened the county’s move to an iconic 1970s commercial for an oil company filter which warned, “You can pay me now or pay me later.’”

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver: Standardized Testing (HBO) **WARNING ADULT LANGUAGE (bleeped)
This video was too informative and entertaining to not share. I will warn you it does have some adult language which is bleeped but still evident.

This video is 18 minutes long but you will likely not want to stop watching. You will laugh, but you will also get angry—and you should!

This video speaks about the real issues of testing in Florida and in our nation today. It also features an outstanding retired School Board Member from Orange Co., Florida, Rick Roach who has been a hero to many of us Board Members who have taken stands against high-stakes testing.
Enjoy!

Once again your Board shows it vast knowledge and understanding; of the challenges and needs of public educational and how it relates of our community.

We do desire for the BOCC to understand and value our Citrus County School District.
