School District for 5th Time Honored as High Performing School District

The Citrus County School District is being honored for its outstanding high academic performance and fiscal responsibility.

On Wedensday, May, 18th, 2011 the Florida Department of Education announced that Citrus County School District was named one of only 13 school districts in the state of Florida designated as 2011-12 Academically High Performing School Districts. This is the fifth consecutive year Citrus County has earned this recognition. Only five districts ever including Citrus have ever achieved that.  Of the top five (Martin, Nassau, Charlotte, Walton) districts who have maintained this honor for the last 5 years, Citrus County is the ONLY district to have improved from previous years.

Some of the requirements in order to be honored include:

  • Class-size compliance
  • Consistently high grades
  • Sound financial audits

The other counties recognized by the State Board of Education are: Brevard, Charlotte, Clay, Gulf, Indian River, Lee, Martin, Nassau, Seminole, Sumter, Wakulla and Walton.
