Board Meeting & ESE Department 09/26/2010

School Board Meeting

We had a most informative school board workshop and special meeting on Tuesday September 26th, 2010.  At the workshop the  Board was presented with the MGT of America, Inc. Educational Facilities Master Plan Update (an update of the MGT FMP from 2006-07).  In addition, the Board was presented with the State of the District Part I report.

The MGT’s report was most helpful for me as a new board member as it was very in-depth and will greatly assist the Board with our distric ‘s current and future capital pla n s.

Assistant Superintendent Mary Curry began the State of the District Part I report which covered State Assessment updates, Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP), Citrus Virtual, District Initiatives/Challenges, and Florida’s Race to the Top.

Exceptional Student Education Department Visit

I continued meeting with school district departments.  I visited the Exceptional Student Education (ESE) department and met with Nancy Haynes, Director and Julie Kelsey, Coordinator.  I have worked with both of these ladies while on Central Ridge Elementary School Advisory Enhancement Council as they both serv ed  as the school’s district representatives .  ESE always is facing challenges for our students and Mrs. Haynes, Mrs. Kelsey and myself talked  about many of the challenges ou r  parents, students and educators are facing.  Florida Response to Intervention (RtI) is a big part of our students ‘  learning these days.  RtI is a process that provides intervention and educational support to all students at increasing levels of intensity based on their individual needs. The goal is to prevent problems and intervene early so that students can be successful. Visit http://www.florida-rti.org/ for more information.
