This week
Nice start to the new year- from school board meetings, Florida School Board Insurance Trust (FSBIT) Board of Trustees meetings, and Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) appeal hearings. These are just some of the photos from the week.

2022 Citrus Sunshine State Scholars
This morning I was excited to be at Crystal River High School for the announcement of the Citrus County Schools 2022 Sunshine State Scholars County Scholar and School Honorees. This year CHS, LHS, and CRHS had 12 school honorees. CRHS had three of those honorees including the 2022 Sunshine State Scholars County Scholar. Today Austin Edwards and Morgan Faust were honored at CRHS’s 2022 Sunshine State Scholars Scholars and Carson Edwards as the 2022 Citrus County Sunshine State Scholar.
The Sunshine State Scholars Award is sponsored by the Florida Department of Education and the Florida Education Foundation to recognize the state’s highest-achieving 11th-grade science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) students. To be considered students must have at least a 3.90 weighted GPA, 25 hours of community service hours, be on track for Bright Futures Scholarship, and show a passion for STEM. Carson, Austin, and Morgan are all in the Academy of Health Careers Biomedical pathway.
I happen to have had the unique pleasure of knowing all three of these young people since they were infants. They are another example of the great students in Citrus County Schools.
Congratulations to our 2020 Citrus County School’s Sunshine State Scholars!
