CREST Class of 2024 Graduation: Celebrating Exceptional Achievement and New Beginnings
Today marked a significant milestone as the Citrus School Districts Class of 2024 began their graduation ceremonies, starting with the Citrus Resource for Exceptional Students in Transition (CREST) Graduation. The event was a heartwarming celebration of the students’ hard work, perseverance, and achievements.
The ceremony opened with student bio introductions by dedicated educators Carron Fights, Cara Harris, Nancy Hopp, Joseph McCue, and Jennifer Green. Each introduction was filled with personal anecdotes and heartfelt acknowledgments, highlighting the unique journeys and accomplishments of the graduates. These introductions set the tone for a memorable and emotional event.
Superintendent Sandra “Sam” Himmel, School Board Member Ginger Bryant, and Principal Lee Mulder had the honor of presenting the diplomas. Their presence underscored the significance of this achievement, not only for the students but also for the entire CREST community.
One of the most anticipated and cherished moments of the CREST graduation is always the ‘Turning of the Tassel’ led by ESE Specialist Paul Heinze. His enthusiastic and spirited leadership of this tradition never fails to bring smiles and cheers from the audience. The ‘Turning of the Tassel’ symbolizes the graduates’ transition from students to alumni, marking the end of one chapter and the beginning of another.
The ceremony concluded with closing remarks by Assistant Principal Melanie Howard. Her speech was followed by a special recognition for outgoing Principal Lee Mulder, who has served as the CREST principal for the past 11 years. In an emotional moment, Mr. Mulder, touched by the acknowledgment, held back tears and simply stated, “This was the best job ever.” His dedication and leadership have left an indelible mark on the CREST community, and his presence will be deeply missed.
The graduation concluded with a recessional to the timeless strains of “Pomp and Circumstance,” by the graduates and their educators. The sight of students, teachers, and administrators walking together, united in celebration, was a powerful reminder of the supportive and inclusive environment that CREST provides.
Parents and families, your unwavering support and encouragement have been instrumental in the success of these graduates. Your presence at today’s ceremony was a testament to the strength of the community that surrounds and uplifts our students.
As we bid farewell to the CREST Class of 2024, we are reminded of the words of Henry David Thoreau: “Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined.” These graduates are now equipped with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to pursue their dreams and make a positive impact on the world.
