Citrus High School Construction Academy on track for fall 2022

Citrus High School Construction Academy on track for fall 2022

CHS Principal Kahler shared today that the CHS Construction Academy continues to be on track for its opening this fall 2022-2023 school year.

This week we learned that a state appropriation budget request for some funding for the Citrus High School Construction Academy for some initial equipment did not get approved. While we would have put it to good use, it will not delay the program opening this fall. We will work with our strategic community organizations, businesses and individuals to fund some of the future equipment and tool needs.

Exciting times are ahead!

Girls State Interview

Girls State Interview

Thank you, 2022 Girls State Delegate Molly Malek a rising senior from Lecanto High School and Academy of Environmental Science, for interviewing me as her local elected leader in preparation for the 75th Session Florida Girls State on June 7 thru June 15, 2022, in Tallahassee, Florida.

Miss Malek is one of the local Girls selected by the American Legion Auxiliary to represent Citrus County. After graduating high school Miss Malek is interested in continuing her education in political science and/or environmental science.

I have had the great privilege of knowing Miss Malek since she was in elementary school. I have had the honor of coaching her in swimming as a young person and have loved watching her grow as a student and person.

I have done a number of these interviews over the years, and it always impresses me how informed and concerned our students are with their world and community. Miss Malek is going to go on and do amazing things and Citrus County will once again be proud of the successful students they support and cheer.

Thank you, American Legion Auxiliary, for providing this great Girls State opportunity.

Pace Center for Girls Class of 2022

Congratulations to Brianna and Gia!

Today we honored two remarkable young ladies who graduated from their respective base high schools but returned to also graduate from the Citrus County Pace Center for Girls. I was honored to join the other Citrus County School District leaders as we celebrated these ladies.

Congratulations to Brianna and Gia! We wish you the very best! Thank you to all the educators, mentors, counselors and community partners that support and cheer all our Pace Girls! As the Pace family says, “Once a Pace Girl, always a Pace girl”!

One last congratulation to the Class of 2022!

One last congratulation to the Class of 2022!

Here are some additional moments I captured from last week’s high school graduations.
Special thanks to all our district and school teams that work so hard everyday setting up and breaking down and moving to the next school to make these moments possible!

More Happy Retirements

More Happy Retirements

Many wonderful retirement celebrations have continued this week which is the custom for this time of year. One of those I attended today was for two wonderful educators from Citrus Springs Elementary School. Donna Scott and The Queen of Speech, Shauna Parrish. Collectively they have provided over 50 years of service to thousands of students. They both cared for my children in elementary school. I am so grateful to them for their impact on our school and school district. God Bless you in retirement, and God Bless and thank you to all our retirees!

Citrus Blessings’ mission continues, how we began

Citrus Blessings’ mission continues, how we began

As our summer school holidays begin Citrus County Blessings is transitioning into our Summer Feeding program. As a member of the Board of Directors, I am often asked about how Citrus County Blessings began. What better way to learn about it than directly from Citrus Blessings Founder, Debbie Lattin. Follow the link below to watch the video.

Thank you Ms. Lattin for founding this great organization.
