All three of Citrus County’s public high school marching bands participated Tuesday in the inaugural parade in Tallahassee in honor of Gov. Rick Scott.
Aaron Woodfin, Lecanto High School’s band director, said the parade traveled from the governor’s mansion to the Old Capitol. The school district paid for four charter buses to take the group — including about 160 students plus chaperones — to Tallahassee.

Without question, reading is the most important skill for students in the 21st century. But what will convince students that reading is rewarding and wonderful? Lecanto High School and the Citrus County Library System have teamed up to offer one solution — Reading Buddies.
Reading Buddies began 10 years ago through the collaborative efforts of Cindy Shear, an LHS English teacher, and Sherry Durham, the youth librarian at Central Ridge Library. Thus began an odyssey.

As we end 2010 and begin a new yearI have so much to be thankful for. It has been a good and roller coaster- filled year. I am thankful to be the son of two kind people, the husband to a terrific woman and the father to two incredible kids! I want to again thank the people of Citrus County for the opportunity to be a school representative for our schools and students. God bless us all!

Serious education briefly took a backseat to serious fun last week when teachers, the principal and some other school staffers took the stage at Citrus Springs Elementary School for a holiday production.
Amy Crowell, a teacher on special assignment at the school, directed the show, titled “A Toy Story Christmas.”
Based loosely on Walt Disney’s “Toy Story” films, the production featured beloved big-screen characters such as Buzz Lightyear, Woody and Jessie, with good “children” Hannah and Andy plagued by Hannah’s evil sibling, Sid.
